My name is Laura and I love being creative and inspiring others to expand their creativity! I'm currently living in Belgium with my husband, John, and am moving across the pond to Illinois in January. We have a craft business featuring exclusive chalk paint and sip classes using home decor items that we handmake from salvaged wood. We also have an online shop with handmade items for sale and take custom orders! We always have a series of make and take craft items on hand to create during class or take home with you. These are also perfect for personalized gifts if you can’t attend a class! All our handmade home decor items are one-of-a-kind. This is all done on the side of our full time job as active duty professional musicians in the US military.
I discovered chalk paint over 6 years ago in a little shop in Texas and have been completely hooked and obsessed ever since! One of the many reasons I grew to love chalk paint so much is the unique ability to "just start painting".
Through years of window-shopping and browsing stores all across the world, I started finding my own unique style and without knowing it at the time, developing a brand that I love.
Having a successful business where I could positively influence the community has been a wild dream of mine for years. I never could quite put my finger on what exactly that could be until one day when I decided to go outside my comfort zone.
I hand design all our handmade decor using a pencil, rustic wood, a jigsaw and lots of creativity!
At my classes, you are in complete control of your creativity! I am there to guide you, but there are no wrong answers and imperfections are actually encouraged!
The best part about teaching chalk paint classes is experiencing everyone fall in love with chalk paint as much as I did my first time. I just love receiving messages with photos of their piece displayed at home and watching as they break their own comfort zone and dive into breathing new life into old furniture pieces they have been hiding at home.
For years, I wondered how I could use my gift for teaching to bring people together in the community. Yet, I never could put my finger on what exactly it was I was mean to teach. Once I discovered chalk paint, in the back of my mind I would have thoughts about teaching a DIY chalk paint class where people bring tired items from home to paint and give a new life.
Just a little over a year ago, the timing was just right. A local charity needed to raise money for their annual ball. I was excited and admitedly nervous to share this idea as a fundraiser and luckily the committee agreed! This is exactly how it all started! It was all meant to be!
My very first class was a fundraiser for an Air Force Ball event at a local arts + craft center! It was a "bring your own piece" class with unlimited wine! After this class, I received dozens of questions about when my next one would be!
After receiving the outpour of messages, I decided to do another fundraiser using wooden pumpkins. This was my first attempt at ever designing decor, cutting wood and using a nail gun.
I loved it so much that the rest is history!
